5 STAR SECURITY SERVICES
Complex Community & Supportive Housing
Security that protects residents, staff and property while respecting the people who live there.

A Different Kind of Security Work
Supportive housing, shelters and community-service sites serve people who may be living with addictions, mental health challenges, trauma or homelessness. Enforcement-first security can make these situations worse. 5 Star officers assigned to these sites are trained to recognize distress, de-escalate conflict and treat residents with dignity. Their role is to keep the building safe and support the work your staff already do, not work against it.
How We Work in These Settings
Trauma-informed
Officers understand how past trauma can shape behaviour, and adjust their tone, body language and approach to suit.
Harm reduction
Officers focus on reducing harm to residents, staff and the community, in line with the harm-reduction practices of the organizations we serve.
De-escalation first
Officers resolve conflict through communication and time wherever it is safe to do so. Escalation steps are defined in site post orders.
Specialized training
Officers receive training in addictions, mental health, poverty, cultural sensitivity and homelessness.
Prepared for Overdose Response
Where a site requires it, officers carry a naloxone kit at all times, because an emergency can happen at any moment. They are prepared to recognize the signs of an overdose, call for emergency medical help, provide initial response and document the incident.
Working Alongside Housing Staff
- Post orders developed with your program staff and aligned to your policies
- Clear handover and communication with case workers and on-site staff
- Consistent officer assignments where possible, so residents see familiar faces
- Respectful, professional relationships with tenants that support long-term stability
- Detailed incident reports that support your follow-up, funding and reporting needs
- Regular reviews with your management team to adjust our approach as needs change
Safety Support Worker Program
For sites that need more than a traditional security role, our Safety Support Worker (SSW) program places workers in a role that blends safety, support and community connection.
